You know the topic is trending when even our Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi knows about it. He took everyone by surprise by his ” Yeh PUBG waala hain kya?” phrase that went viral in no time. Perhaps even Mr. Modi wants the elusive Chicken Dinner?

The fact that Players’ Unknown Battlegrounds (PUBG) is a worldwide phenomenon is no secret.

PUBG took the gaming world by storm when it first took off on console platforms like Xbox and PS4 as well as on PCs. It was not the first battle royal game by any means, but it gave players some awesome graphics to back up the seamless gaming experience. PUBG went through its shares of ups and downs before finally striking a chord with gamers all over the world. The surge in its popularity has minted profit for the parent company Tencent, whose profitability skyrocketed to make the company one of the most valuable brands in 2018.

But that wasn’t the end of its success. The actual revolution in the gaming industry began when PUBG spread its wings to foray into the mobile gaming segment. 

It flattened all the competition and even outdid itself by launching the game for Android and iPhones free of cost. 

You have to be living under a rock to not know what the phenomenon called PUBG is.

It is the last man standing battle royal game that pits real players (and the infamous bots) against one another. The players fight it out on a large map with weapons and the last remaining player is crowned champion.

PUBG was launched in 2017 but the free and more popular mobile version was launched in February 2018. It boasts of a mammoth 100 million active users every single day! This has complemented the rise of the gaming industry which is now a multi-billion-dollar industry in India.  The overall active gaming community in India has crossed well over 200 million users and is expected to grow at a steady rate to reach a user base of more than 450 million by 2021.

While PUBG was the catalyst in bringing about the gaming revolution in India, it was not the only hero of this marvelous rise to glory for the gamers in India. 

Its launch could not have been more perfect as Reliance Jio’s very own internet revolution in the country had just started providing stupendous amounts of data for dirt cheap prices. This made the gamers undeterred while downloading a 2GB game from their play store or app store.

The advent of technology also brought along an array of fantastic budget-oriented gaming smartphones for the Indian market.  A budget gaming phone with heap loads of fast data was the perfect recipe for the success of the gaming Industry in India. PUBG played the crucial role of a catalyst to get more people hooked on to the gaming industry.
